3 Roar Players Compete For $2M, TBT Tournament

On Wednesday, July 22nd, the race for the TBT Tournament Championship and the $2,000,000 winner-takes-all prize begins for three current and former Roar players.

The TBT Tournament has become the most watched off-season tournament featuring teams made up of some of the largest college basketball alumni pools like the JHX Hoops from the University of Kansas Jayhawks alumni pool and La Familia from the University of Kentucky Wildcats alumni pool. Players with NBA experience, current NBA G-Leaguers, and some of the best hoopers from around the world will compete for the $2M large.

The 4 Bears Roar just came off an impressive inaugural season, finishing 27-3 and winning the 2026 TBL West Division. The first year team definitely brought in some of the best talent in the TBL. Entering the TBT Tournament, three current and formers Roar players will be taking the floor with their eyes on the cash. 6'9" forward Tavares Sledge had a great year as a veteran leader for the Roar, averaging 9.8 points per game and 5.6 rebounds a game. Sledge joined the Roar from the Virginia Valley Vipers of the 94x50 League in Week 3 of the season. His added veteran presence helped the Roar, given he won a TBL Championship in 2021 with the Enid Outlaws and has played on some of the best TBL teams since. Sledge will join the Red Rose War Ready team for the TBT Tournament. He previously played in an overseas showcase for the Red Rose team.

6'9" center Lacey James, a late season addition for the Roar is also competing in the TBT Tournament, with the Gotham City Bockers. James finished his NBA G-League season with the Wisconsin Herd, the G-League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks. He then signed with the Roar for the finals few weeks of the regular season and ultimately the TBL playoffs. After the TBT Tournament, James will continue working out and preparing for the 2026-2027 NBA G-League season as he'll return to the Milwaukee Bucks organization.

"There's a lot of guys that I personally scouted for 4 Bears playing in the TBT," said Trey Stephens, the Roar's Director of Player Personnel and Scouting. "This is where elite level players are."

Former Roar guard Hunter Woods is also in the TBT Tournament, joining Sledge with the Red Rose War Ready team. Woods was originally drafted by the Willamette Valley Jaguars in the 2026 TBL Draft, but was quickly acquired by the Roar going into their own 2026 Roar Training Camp in Las Vegas. Woods made the team out of camp and appeared in 12 games for the Roar during the 2026 TBL regular season. He averaged 3.4 points per game and 2.4 rebounds per game. He put up 12 points in one game against the Mesquite Desert Dogs in the Roar's home opener weekend.

"This just shows the level of quality players we want with our organization," said Roar GM Derrick Hammonds.
