Roar Defeat Mesa, 108-78

NEWTOWN, ND – On Friday the 4 Bears Roar were in action against the Mesa Monsoons (8-8) at the 4 Bears Event Center. The Roar came into the game (19-1) overall and Roar head coach Wayne Casey was looking for his 3rd consecutive 20-win season in the TBL. The Roar honored veterans and active service members, along with first responders, law enforcement, EMS, firefighters, and emergency healthcare workers. The players wore special camouflage jerseys for the game.

The game started off slow for the Roar missing three 3-pointers off the bat, but the team would eventually start to find rhythm and go on a 20-8 run. At the end of the 1st quarter, the Roar would have a 24-13 lead. The Roar would jump out to a 51-18 lead towards the end of the 2nd quarter, but the Mesa Monsoons would get a late 12-2 run to make it 53-30 at halftime.

The Roar were without TBL All-Star guard Deshawn Munson (soreness) and 2025 TBL Rookie of the Year guard Rob Phinisee (personal leave) for the weekend. The second half of the game would be a back and forth battle with Mesa, but the Monsoons weren’t able to get a scoring run going. The Roar utilized multiple forwards on the floor at any time to shut down inside penetration and force the Monsoons to shoot from outside. The game would end 108-78, with the Roar getting their 20th win in franchise history.

The Roar were led in scoring by forward Jimario Rivers with 19. Guard Alejandro Rama would score a double-double in the game, recording 10 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Rasheed Brooks scored 17 points in 26 minutes of play, while shooting 40% from 3-point. Forward Tavares Sledge added 13 points and newly acquired center Lacey James had 11 points and 8 rebounds.

The Roar take on the Mesa Monsoons tomorrow night, game time starting at 7:00pm. The Roar will be honoring those affected by cancer along with bringing awareness to the community to get screened regularly for cancer. The players will wear special purple jerseys.
