Roar On The Road Showcase: Roar Win 110-103

On Friday, the 4 Bears Roar traveled to Glendive, Montana for Game 1 of the Roar On The Road Showcase.

Back in mid-February, the Mesquite Desert Dogs experienced a scheduling conflict and offered to play the Roar at home instead. 4 Bears Event Center however had an event already scheduled for the dates. Roar management decided to host the neutral site series at Dawson Community College in Glendive, Montana. The Buccaneers of DCC are members of the Mon-Dak Conference, which hosts their tip-off tournament at the 4 Bears Event Center each November. DCC agreed to be the host site of the newly created "Road On The Road Showcase".

The Mesquite Desert Dogs (2-6) came to play however, getting off to a solid start with great perimeter shooting. Newly added 6'6" guard Jerome Washington went off sinking three 3-pointers in a row to get the Desert Dogs out to a 9-4 start. The Roar would answer back but have a hard time controlling the lead. Desert Dogs 6'4" guard Nathan Stewart would hit back to back jumpers towards the end of the first quarter giving Mesquite the 25-19 lead. The second quarter was a much different story for the Roar, with timely contributions from 6'10" forward Brandon Watkins and 6'6" guard Cortez Mosley. The Roar's leading scorer this season, Deshawn Munson, was back on the court in force.

With just a few minutes left in the game, the Roar would take a 15 point lead, but the Desert Dogs would answer. Mesquite's 6'0" guard Marcellus Mencarini would score 22 points, all in the fourth quarter. The Roar would hold strong and finish the game 110-103 for their 12th win of the season. The Roar were lead in scoring by Munson with 34 points and 10 rebounds. 6'10" center Ken'Darrius Hamilton had a breakout game with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Mosley added 16 and 6'8" forward Jimario Rivers dunked 14 points.

Game 2 of the Roar On The Road Showcase is tomorrow night at the Toepke Center.
