Roar Win Big 142-91, Raise Big Money For MMIWR

NEWTOWN, ND – On Friday, May 8th the Roar were in action back at home for the first time in almost a month. The Willamette Valley Jaguars (2-11) flew in from Oregon to take on the TBL West regular season champion 4 Bears Roar (18-1). The Jaguars were fresh off a 3-game road series with the Grant County Redtails before coming to North Dakota.

The game was dedicated in honor of the many victims and families of violence against Native Americans. The Roar teamed up with the Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women & Relatives movement and NativeWoman.org. The opening ceremonies featured dedications to lost Indigenous members, area powwow princesses, jingle dancers, and the local auxiliary women. From the tip, the Roar were commanded a lead on the Jags getting up 22-10 at one point. The Roar would quickly see the dominant presence from their newly signed 6’9” center Lacey James.

At halftime, the Roar had a strong lead of 61-35. The halftime show featured many area princesses and dancers dedicating a dance to the victims lost to violence that the MMIWR strives to bring justice and resources to. The second half of the game was much of the same with the Roar keeping the lead strong. Their biggest lead was 49 points to start the 4th quarter. The Roar would end with a solid victory 142-91.

The Roar were led in scoring by guard Cortez Mosley with 21 points. Guard Deshawn Munson added another double-double to his TBL MVP candidate season scoring 15 points with 12 rebounds, also adding 9 assists. Eight other Roar players would score in double digits; Rivers (14), Phinisee (13), Hamilton (13), Sledge (12), Brooks (12), and Horton (10). Lacey James, the recently signed NBA G-League center had 12 points and 8 rebounds in just 26 minutes played in his TBL debut. The Jags were led in scoring by guard Lybrant Robinson Jr. with 20 points.
