Roar Win Big Over Jags, 136-115

ALBANY, OR – The 4 Bears Roar improved to 16-1 on Friday night as they traveled into Oregon to face the Willamette Valley Jaguars (2-6), getting the victory 136-115.

After a high scoring first quarter, the Roar really put it on leading by 20 at the half, 71-51. However the Jags would claw their way back in the third quarter to make it only a 13 point lead for the Roar. Ultimately the Roar would have a strong showing in the fourth quarter to lead them to their 16th win of the season.

“The vibe of the team was great,” said Roar head coach Wayne Casey. “The Valley team played tough, those guards were tough to defend.”

The Jaguars were led in scoring by guards Preston Whitfield (30), Kevin Fletcher (27), and Ace Stevens (23). The trio for Willamette Valley would combine for 13-33 from the 3-point line. The Roar would play the entire bench in the game ending with 5 players in double figures. The Roar were led in scoring by guard Deshawn Munson with his 7th triple-double of the season stacking up 34 points, 14 assists, and 13 rebounds. Double-digit scoring would come from guard Cortez Mosley (22), forward Tavares Sledge (21), and forward Jimario Rivers (20). Starting point guard Rob Phinisee would add 10 points in a short 6 minutes played before being pulled with some soreness. Phinisee is listed day-to-day with a much needed schedule break coming up.

“We played well as one tonight,” said Roar 6’9” forward Tavares Sledge, who along with 21 points added 9 rebounds and shot 3-5 from 3-point. “It felt good, the bench was positive.”

The Roar take on Willamette Valley tomorrow night in Albany, Oregon at Linn Benton Community College. Game time is set for 6:30pm Pacific, 8:30pm Central.
